Why Won't Java Download On My Mac

Posted : admin On 11/24/2021

Use Software Update

  1. @Mark, I have the full Java 8 JRE installed on my Mac (not just browser support). The Java system preference pane shows up as part of the install. So, the system preference pane is included with Java installations that cover more than just the browser. – jefe2000 Sep 15 '17 at 22:07.
  2. Downloads won't open from the Download List: The Downloads Manager ('Ctrl+J') is more like a log of downloads, it does not verify that the download still exits. Make sure you are setup to download to a permanent location, not into temporary files that get cleaned by the browser or by CCCleaner or something designed to clear out temporary files.

In my case, Java works fine in IE 64-bit, but won't load at all in IE 32-bit, Firefox or Chrome. As far as I can tell, IE is the only 64-bit browser so far, and the Java download page checks your browser version at page load, so you won't see a 64-bit download option unless you open the page with IE 64-bit.

  1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu , then click Software Update to check for updates.
  2. If any updates are available, click the Update Now button to install them. Or click “More info” to see details about each update and select specific updates to install. You might be asked to enter your administrator password.
  3. When Software Update says that your Mac is up to date, the installed version of macOS and all of its apps are also up to date. That includes Safari, Music, Photos, Books, Messages, Mail, Calendar, and FaceTime.
  4. To automatically install future updates, including for apps that you got from the App Store, select “Automatically keep my Mac up to date.” Your Mac will notify you when updates require it to restart, so you can always choose to install those later.
